Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday will visit Ara to inaugurate and lay foundation stone…
New Delhi(PTI): After PM Narendra Modi on Monday announced to offer Rs 1 crore as charity to Pakistan’s Edhi foundation, on Tuesday Abdul Sattar Edhi reportedly declined to accept the offer. Abdul Sattar Edhi’s son Faisal Edhi is expected to address a press conference regarding the same at Karachi Press Club soon.
Prominent philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi, who is the founder and head of the Edhi Foundation, thanked Prime Minister Modi for announcing the donation, but declined to accept it for his charity.
“Abdul Sattar Edhi has thanked Modi and politely declined to accept his announced financial help,” Edhi Foundation Spokesman Anwar Kazmi was quoted as saying by the Dawn.
23-year-old Geeta returned home on Monday from Pakistan. Geeta was reportedly just 7 or 8 years old when she was found sitting alone on the Samjhauta Express by the Pakistan Rangers 15 years ago at the Lahore railway station.
On Monday, PM Modi met Geeta and offered her all financial help needed.
“Welcome back home, Geeta. It is truly wonderful to have you back home. Was truly a delight to spend time with you today… All of India will take care of you,” Modi said and assured that every effort would be made to trace her family as she embraced him warmly.
The Prime Minister also thanked the Edhi family, whom he described as “apostles of kindness and compassion” for taking care of Geeta, a PMO release said.
“What the Edhi family has done is too priceless to be measured but I am happy to announce a contribution of Rs 1 crore to their foundation,” Modi had said.
