Bangalore(web team): After KJ George’s statement on rape lead to controversy , another Karnataka’s politician, BJP leader KS Eshwarappa on Saturday told a woman journalist that the opposition can do nothing if someone rapes her. “You are here, if someone takes you, rapes you then what can opposition do?”, he said.

Commenting on Eshwarappa’s statement, Siddaramaiah said, “When has KS Eshwarappa ever made a sensible statement?”

The former state minister made the statement after a woman journalist questioned him about BJP stand on Doddaballapur sub-inspector S Jagadish.

Earlier, KJ George had created furore by implying that two men raping a woman can not be called a gangrape. “How can you say gangrape? Gangrape means four-five people,” George said while replying to a query on Wednesday over the gang rape of a 22-year old BPO employee by the driver and cleaner of a van in the country’s IT hub.

Facing criticism over the statement, the former minister later said he viewed Karnataka women as his sisters. He posed a question to the ruling Congress government over women’ safety. “We ask the State Govt what they are doing,” he said. “Opposition does all we can for women security. The news is an attempt to create confusion,” he added.

Media delegation will be meeting Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah today over BJP’s KS Eshwarappa’s statement on rape cases.

Eshwarappa had found himself in the eye of a storm last year over after asking Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Home Minister K J George if they will have feelings for victims of sexual assault in the state only if their daughters are “raped”.
