Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at Facebook headquarters to address Townhall Q&A with Mark Zuckerberg in Menlo Park, California.
Earlier on Sunday, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg had said, “I’ll host Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a Townhall Q&A at Facebook HQ, where I’m looking forward to having a conversation about what connectivity means for India s future.”
Mark Zuckerberg started the event by saying that he is impressed by the example PM Modi has set in using social media to communicate with the citizens.
“We had a great conversation last year in Delhi. Last time any prime minister of India visited California was in 1982, a lot has changed since then. Am personally impressed by example PM Modi has set in using social media to directly communicate with citizens,” said Zuckerberg.
PM Modi praised Zuckerberg for being the person responsible for everyone over the world to connect.
“I am happy that I am connecting with you (Mark Zuckerberg) today, the person responsible for everyone over the world connecting. I hope you will be the voice of millions, billions of people all across the world. When you came to India, you went to a temple. And look where you have reached. I hope your experience inspires a lot of other people,” said PM Modi.
PM Modi also said, “My dream is to make India a 20 trillion economy, I need to focus on agricultural, service and manufacturing sector to achieve that. It’s amazing how perception about India has changed in a very short period of time, we’ve brought in a new level of confidence. “
Answering to one of the questions asked at the event, PM Modi said, “It is true that in India we have to focus on two things equally, one is physical infrastructure and other is digital infrastructure. We have about 250 panchayats, what I hope is that in next five years we will be able to link these villages through optical fibre. We are now placing a lot of priority on technology. To have economic, easy governance for all these things technology is very important.
